Stereoscopic Visualization Eyewear Latest Evolution in Stereo3D Technology Features Market-Driven Design and Performance Enhancements
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. June 5, 2000 - StereoGraphics® Corporation, the world's leading supplier of stereoscopic visualization products, today introduced CrystalEyes® 3 wireless liquid crystal shuttering eyewear. Keeping pace with industry demand, the latest evolution in StereoGraphics flagship product line boasts significant design and performance improvements, including enhanced stereo sync circuitry and improved battery life.
The new CrystalEyes 3 eyewear is ideal for professionals who work with complex 3D images in industrial VR (virtual reality), molecular modeling, GIS/mapping, MCAD and medical imaging. "As design and engineering professionals continue to work on projects that are more and more complex, the capabilities of their visualization tools need to grow as well," said David Forter, president and CEO, StereoGraphics Corporation. "The improvements in this new product reflect the needs of today's end-user and represent a clear evolution of the CrystalEyes product family."
A significant performance enhancement for CrystalEyes 3 can be found in the new electronics that provide more than 250 hours of continuous operation. This represents nearly 50% more battery life than previous CrystalEyes models. A new battery level indicator light also alerts the user when power is low, ensuring that the eyewear is achieving optimal performance. CrystalEyes 3 also features enhanced stereo sync circuitry for improved shutter performance, providing the highest quality stereo viewing possible.
"Virtual reality applications give our customers an exciting new way of relating to their data," said Robert Mehall, director of the EDS VR Center. "By using StereoGraphics CrystalEyes in conjunction with EDS applications expertise, our customers are able to view a very realistic representation of their data in a virtual environment. Instead of simply looking at lines on a drawing they can actually step into the design, interact with the data and really experience their designs in new ways - that gives them a very powerful advantage."
CrystalEyes 3 is now equipped with an optional nosepiece and redesigned temple pieces, enhancing the comfort of the eyewear and making them more suitable for CAVE (computer-aided virtual environment) and VR immersion environments. The eyewear is made of a new, more robust matte black composite material and is covered by a three-year warranty.
"Every engineering improvement found in CrystalEyes 3 was made with end-user input," said Ian Matthew, director of marketing, StereoGraphics Corporation. "With more than 50,000 pairs of CrystalEyes in use today, StereoGraphics has a tremendous volume of customers who frequently give us feedback on what they like and what they would hope for in future versions of our eyewear. By incorporating as much of their feedback as possible, and involving customers in the design evaluation process, we feel that the result is a product that allows our customers to be more comfortable and more productive than ever before."
About Stereo3D Technology Stereo3D is the use of computer technology to recreate the way we naturally see depth -- stereoscopically. Stereoscopic viewing describes how we use both eyes, each with a slightly different perspective, to perceive depth and perspective in a physical environment.
Stereo3D delivers the most realistic visual representation possible of complex digital models, giving architects, engineers, scientists, cartographers and medical and graphics professionals the best possible understanding of three-dimensional information and yields levels of technical proficiency not available using a typical 3D view.
StereoGraphics Stereo3D products have been in use for over a decade in key design and engineering centers within organizations such as General Motors, Ford, Caterpillar and NASA. Stereo3D products such as CrystalEyes® Wired, CrystalEyes and Monitor ZScreen® 2000 Series allow professionals dealing with large multi-dimensional data sets to visualize images more naturally, enabling earlier detection of design errors, enhanced design review, reduced design cycles and faster time-to-market.
System Requirements and Compatibility CrystalEyes 3 works with all stereo-enabled graphics cards and software applications. It is compatible with all computer operating systems including Linux, UNIX, Windows 2000 and Windows NT workstations. All leading MCAD, industrial VR, molecular modeling and GIS/mapping software developers support stereoscopic viewing and are compatible with CrystalEyes 3.
